How the Quiet score works

A puzzle app is “quiet” when it lets you solve without interruptions, pressure to pay, or tracking. The score is a 0–100 number built only from facts the stores publish, so anyone can check it.

points earned points measurable × 100

Five store signals, 100 points

35 ptsNo adsGoogle Play "Contains ads" label. No ads = 35, contains ads = 0. Unknown for iOS-only apps (Apple publishes no ads flag).
15 ptsNo cross-app trackingApple App Privacy label. No "Data Used to Track You" = 15, present = 0. Unknown for Android-only apps.
25 ptsLow spending ceilingMost expensive in-app purchase listed by either store. None = 25, up to $4.99 = 20, up to $9.99 = 15, up to $19.99 = 8, up to $49.99 = 3, above = 0.
15 ptsNo subscriptionNo subscription wording in the store listing or listed IAP names = 15, otherwise 0.
10 ptsOffline play statedStore listing says the game works offline / without Wi-Fi = 10, otherwise 0 (not verified by us).

If a signal can’t be read (Apple has no ads label; Google Play has no tracking label), it is left out instead of guessed, and the page shows the coverage: the share of the 100 points that was measurable. An iOS-only app is scored on 65%, an Android-only app on 85%.

Where the data comes from

  • Google Play listing (US): “Contains ads” and “In-app purchases” labels, IAP price range, price, rating, installs, description text.
  • Apple App Store (US): iTunes Lookup API (price, rating) and the public app page (In-App Purchases list, App Privacy labels).
  • Subscription and offline signals are keyword matches in the listing text; negated phrases like “no subscription” are ignored. The matching sentence is quoted on each app page.

All 97 apps were refreshed on 2026-10-25 by a script anyone can re-run (npm run data).

Known limits

  • Apple shows only some in-app purchases on the web page, so the max purchase may be understated for iOS-only apps.
  • Prices and labels are from the US stores and can differ by country.
  • An ad-free app can still be expensive; check the price.
  • We don’t take payment for scores. If paid listings are ever offered, they will be clearly labelled and won’t change any number.

What the score doesn’t know yet

Store labels don’t say how ads feel. “Contains ads” covers both a small banner and a 30-second unskippable video after every puzzle. These need someone to actually play the game:

  • Forced video adsnot yet reviewed
  • Rewarded adsnot yet reviewed

Play-tested so far: 0 of 97 apps. Each field is filled in only after a real play session, with device, app version and date recorded. Until then they don’t affect the score.
